We're talking about hooking into some serious inshore action – Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, and Black Drum are all on the menu. And the best part? We've got all the gear you need. Rods, reels, bait, and tackle are all provided, so you can focus on what really matters – landing that trophy fish and making memories that'll last a lifetime.
Now, let's talk shop. Inshore fishing in Port Aransas is all about finesse and local know-how. We'll be using a mix of techniques depending on what's biting. Expect to do some drift fishing over grass flats for trout, or maybe some sight casting for tailing redfish in the shallows. We might even set up near some oyster reefs or channel edges where the big ones like to hang out. Our gear is top-notch, with light to medium action rods perfect for feeling those subtle bites. And don't worry if you're new to this – we'll show you the ropes, from how to work a soft plastic to the art of the perfect cast.

"Great day fishing with Captain Cory!
We caught several nice reds and one whopper on a slow-to-bite kinda day. If you're looking for a likeable, good with kids guide who'll put you on the fish - Cap'n Cory's your man." - David
"Capt Cory is the best fishing guide I have ever used. Very friendly and personable. He answer's all of your questions and makes it fun for everyone. He will go the extra mile to make sure you have a good time and caught fish. He does not look at his watch to see if times up. He fished us 15 mins past time and we caught 2 redfish. You can tell he enjoys what he is doing!!! Thanks Capt Cory and we will be back." - Randall
Let's break down the stars of our inshore show. First up, the Redfish – these copper-colored bruisers are the pride of Texas inshore fishing. Known for their bull-dogging fights and that distinctive spot on their tail, redfish can range from "rats" (small ones) to "bulls" (over 27 inches). They love to cruise the shallows, often revealing their location with their tails sticking out of the water as they root for crabs.
Next, we've got the Speckled Trout, or "specks" as we call 'em. These silvery fish with spots are known for their soft mouths and acrobatic jumps. They're a blast on light tackle and make for some fantastic eating. Spring and fall are prime times for big trout, but we catch 'em year-round in Port A.
Don't forget about the Southern Flounder – the ninjas of the bay. These flatfish are masters of camouflage, blending in perfectly with the bottom. They're most active during their fall run, but we can find them throughout the year if you know where to look. And let me tell you, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of landing a big flounder.
Last but not least, the Black Drum. These cousins of the redfish are like underwater vacuum cleaners, using their sensitive barbels to root out crabs and shrimp from the bottom. They might not be the prettiest fish in the bay, but boy, can they put up a fight. And the smaller ones, what we call "puppy drum," are excellent on the dinner table.
Folks, this isn't just fishing – it's a full-on Port Aransas experience. You're not just casting lines; you're soaking in the sights and sounds of one of the Gulf Coast's best-kept secrets. Imagine spotting dolphins playing in the distance, or watching a great blue heron snag its breakfast right next to the boat. And let's not forget the sunrises out here – they're the kind that make even the earliest wake-up call worth it.
But what really sets this trip apart is the personal touch. Captain Cory isn't just a guide; he's a local legend with a passion for sharing his backyard with visitors. He's got a knack for making everyone feel like a pro, whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned angler. And trust me, his local knowledge is worth its weight in gold – or should I say, in redfish.
Alright, let's cut to the chase – this 4-hour inshore trip in Port Aransas is the real deal. It's not just about the fish you'll catch (though there's plenty of that). It's about the stories you'll tell, the skills you'll learn, and the memories you'll make out on these legendary waters. Whether you're looking to introduce the kids to fishing or you're after that personal best, we've got you covered.
So what are you waiting for? The fish are biting, the bay is calling, and Captain Cory's ready to show you the best spots Port A has to offer. Book your spot now, and get ready to experience inshore fishing the Texas way. Just remember to bring your sense of adventure (and maybe a camera for those "fish this big" stories). See you on the water!

This was our second trip with Captain Cory Russell, and we are absolutely excited and can't wait to book the third one!!!! Captain Cory never disappoints, we, again, had a FANTASTIC experience!!! First time we maxed out our fish limit within first couple of hours, this time things didn't go that way, but it was not for the lack of trying! And after all, if fish is your main priority - there's a frozen foods section at HEB. We had the best time with Captain Cory, it was just absolutely wonderful, we laughed, we enjoyed a wonderful day on the water together, we never gave up, we learned so much! Honestly I think it's my favorite thing about Captain Cory's approach - there's no gatekeeping, he was continually teaching us all the different techniques, what you do differently for different kinds of fish, their habbits, their Luke's and dislikes, different kinds of bait, cooking techniques, literally, ask him any question and he will do absolute best to educate you! Captain Cory is super knowledgeable, very professional and helpful and he also has that very positive, super easy and pleasant personality! We absolutely love our experience and we will definitely 100% for sure book with Captain Cory again! I highly recommend him!

Black drum are the hefty cousins of redfish, typically 5-30 pounds but can balloon up to 90 pounds. You'll find them in brackish waters and estuaries, hanging around oyster beds and mudflats. These bottom-feeders love crushed crab and shrimp. Spring's your best bet when they school up to spawn - you can actually hear them making croaking sounds underwater. Anglers enjoy the challenge of black drum, especially the bigger ones that put up a serious fight. They're good eating too, but stick to the smaller ones under 15 pounds for the best flavor and texture. Here's a local trick: use a heavy sinker to keep your bait on the bottom, and be patient. These guys are slow and methodical eaters, so wait for a solid pull before setting the hook.
Sea trout, or speckled trout as we call 'em, are a blast to catch. They usually run 14-24 inches and 1-5 pounds, with a sleek, silvery body covered in spots. Look for them around grass flats and shallow waters, especially at night. They're ambush predators, so structure is key. Fall and spring are prime times when water temps are moderate. Anglers love 'em for their aggressive strikes and delicate, flaky meat. These fish put up a good fight on light tackle too. For best results, try working a soft plastic shrimp imitation or topwater plug around dawn or dusk. My go-to tip: when you find one trout, there's usually more nearby. Fan cast the area thoroughly before moving on.
Redfish are a favorite around here, growing up to 28-33 inches on average but sometimes pushing 45 inches and 50 pounds. You'll spot 'em by their reddish backs and that signature black spot near the tail. These guys love shallow water - we're talking 1-4 feet deep. Look for them around oyster reefs, seagrass, and muddy bottoms in the bays. Spring and fall are prime seasons when water temps are just right. Anglers love targeting reds for their strong fights and excellent eating. For the best shot at hooking one, try topwater lures early in the morning or shrimp imitation jigs worked slowly along the bottom. My local tip: on really sunny days, scan the shallows for their tails sticking out of the water as they feed - it's a dead giveaway and makes for some exciting sight fishing.
